Austrian Police Hunt Thieves Who Stole 400kg of Cheese

The cheese thieves struck on the night of Friday 6 May, night, breaking into a warehouse in village of Schlitters in Tyrol and making off with nearly all their tasty loot.

Nine slabs of cheese were stolen, each weighing 50kg, although one was later found, Austrian media reported. Each cheese measures 70 x 70 x 10cm.

"The perpetrators left one of the stolen slabs outside, near the area of ​​the burglary site. The stolen goods may then have been taken away by the strangers in a vehicle," investigators were quoted as saying by Kronen Zeitung newspaper.

 

Tyrol police said in a Facebook post that the burglary caused several thousand euros of damage. 

"Due to the unusually large amount, it is quite possible that someone will notice the stolen goods," they wrote.
