Avoid this food before flying

Shops, cafes and restaurants at the airport are filled with tempting options, but experts suggest you avoid specific food.

Eating a good meal before you board the plane is essential, but you should avoid some food and drinks at an airport.

Chips

Salty snacks such as chips are among the worse foods to consume before flying. With preservatives and high salt content, chips are tasty but can dehydrate the body and lead to bloating. As cabin pressure falls while flying, gas starts to expand and eating chips may result in more discomfort with gas.

Fizzy drinks

Fizzy beverages may cause unpleasant feelings such as gas and heartburn during a flight. Next time you would be better opting for a glass of water as it will not make you bloated and at the same time, keep you hydrated.

Sushi

Tasty and refreshing, sushi is a tempting option at the airport. However, the American Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advise against eating sushi due to the potential risk of food poisoning. In addition, soy sauce is naturally high in salt, so think carefully before adding it to your sushi next time, experts say.

Beans & Apples

While beans and apples are good sources of vitamins and minerals, they should be avoided before flying. Beans and some specific legumes, such as peas and lentils, contain hard-to-digest fibres that can cause gas, while the high amount of dietary fibre in apples makes them difficult to digest.

Alcohol

We don´t want to kill your fun vibes, but drinking alcohol is bad. Consuming alcohol causes dehydration, headaches and nausea due to altitude changes. If you cannot fight the temptation, remember to drink enough fluids between each alcoholic beverage to minimise this risk.
