Bakers unite! Roll up your sleeves for World Bread Day

Is that sourdough starter just a distant pandemic memory now? Celebrate World Bread Day with these mouth-watering baked treats from baguettes to potato bread.

Roll up your sleeves and turn on that oven – arguably our favourite annual food day has rolled around: World Bread Day. It neatly coincides with the United Nations' World Food Day on 16 October, which is fitting for one of the world's oldest prepared foods.

The secret to bread lies in its simplicity. Flour, water, yeast and salt kneaded together and then baked. But every country has its own beloved specialities, from baguettes to banana bread, sourdough and soda bread – not to mention bagels and bhatoora.

There was a resurgence in bread making during the Covid pandemic lockdowns as millions of people confined to their homes made sourdough baking their new hobby. So if your mixer is now languishing at the back of your kitchen cupboard, pull it out and try one of our favourite recipes.

The Falstaff team wishes you lots of fun and success in the kitchen!
