British Airways appoints its own Master of Wine

New role will overhaul airline’s in-flight and lounge ranges.

For regular flyers who know a thing or two about their wine, the news coming out of British Airways may be just what they want to hear.

One of the most famous names in global travel has appointed their own Master of Wine, MW, with the brief to ‘upgrade passengers’ in-flight experience’. Tim Jackson MW will overhaul the company’s drinks portfolio both on-board and in lounges across the world, with trade experts, including former BA wine consultant and renowned expert, Jancis Robinson, scathing in their criticism of what the airline was currently offering.

As well as Jackson bringing his expertise to their selection of fine and sparkling wines, BA will champion British beer, alongside classic gins and non-alcoholic alternatives.

Jackson said: “I have sampled wine from all corners of the globe, ranging from California to Chile, so I hope my love for travel, together with my experience and knowledge of beverages, will make a positive difference to the premium experience we offer our customers.”

Jackson was already introduced new Sauvignon Blanc wines from Marlborough, New Zealand in Premium cabins, with the new year kicking off with a celebration of Cape Town in South Africa – including a Renaissance Chenin Blanc from Stellenbosch, and Andrew and Chris Mullineux’s Swartland Syrah.
