British Airways flies into the wine business

UK

Customers of British Airways’ loyalty programme can earn Avios when ordering from a new online wine retailer.

British Airways, BA, is trying its hand at the wine business and wants to convince its loyal customers to order alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks via a new website.

The airline´s Executive Club loyalty programme members may collect up to 10 Avios per £1 spent when ordering from this new online wine retailer. “The Wine Flyer” will launch on October 4 in partnership with IAG Loyalty; the website has already been launched but does not show any products as of today, September 28.

Prices start from less than £10

Every wine chosen for the range has been produced by a country on British Airwaysglobal network, the airline said in a press release. Prices start from less than £10 per bottle with the range including brands such as Penfolds and Moët & Chandon; beers, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available. Customers making one-off payments will collect 5 Avios per £1 spent on their total basket value, and those signing up for a subscription will collect 10 Avios per £1 spent. A special introductory offer will be available until December 31, 2022, offering 10 Avios per £1 on one-off purchases and 15 Avios per £1 on subscriptions.

The BA Executive Club is a free-to-join reward programme and is run by IAG Loyalty; its currency, Avios, can be collected by flying and through everyday spending. They can be used to purchase flights or upgrades with airlines including BA, Qatar Airways, and Aer Lingus. IAG Loyalty is part of International Airlines Group (IAG), one of the world's largest airline groups.
