Cape Winemakers Guild Holds Online Auction for its Protégé Programme

Wine lovers can bid for unique lots at the Cape Winemakers Guild online auction

The Cape Winemakers Guild of South Africa will auction 75 lots to benefit its charitable Protégé Programme.

Illustrious winemakers

The online auction, held by Bonhams, will run from 4-21 June 2021 and feature lots donated by the 43 members of the Cape Winemakers Guild, an association that counts illustrious winemakers such as Andrea Mullineux, Bruwer Raats, Adi Badenhorst and Duncan Savage as its members.

Top lots

Wine lovers can bid for top-class wines, lunches, dinners, accommodation and tastings. There also is an “outstanding” lot, made up of 43 wiines, some of them rarities, one from each CWG member.

Mentorship and self-empowerment

Launched in 2006, the Protégé Programme empowers farm employees through further education and contributes towards change by way of a three-year internship. It aims to cultivate the next generation of award-winning winemakers, viticulturists, and future policymakers through mentorship and self-empowerment. Since the inception of the Protégé Programme, 24 Protégés have completed the internship. 13 are currently participating in the programme. Of those who have graduated, 16 now either hold leading winemaking roles or have their own winemaking projects.
