Unique design and construction
The world’s tallest artificial climbing wall has been constructed and designed by Walltopia, the world's biggest manufacturer of man-made climbing structures. The design aesthetic mimics a mountain in the middle of the Danish capital while the bright appearance integrates with the rest of CopenHill power plant. At a height of 85 m/279 ft, the wall has five routes of various difficulty, each broken down into four 20-metre pitches. For the best outdoor climbing experience, all features such as roofs, arêtes, cracks and ledges are also included.
A balance between functionality and appearance
“This is not a typical wall. For example, [normally] when you climb, you rely on the rope and belayer to protect you in case you fall. However, there isn’t a rope that’s long enough to climb such a high wall,” Vasil Sharlanov, head of sales at Walltopia, said. Because of the height, climbers must stop on a ledge at the top of each section and pull up the rope to continue climbing.
The wall is expected to open this autumn, but due to the height, it will be reserved for professional and certified climbers. Children and people under the age of 18 may only climb multi-pitch on the climbing wall with an experienced adult of 21 years or older – both must be certified.
