The best advice I ever got

Follow your gut instinct - hailing from my mother. It relates to situations, people and when identifying a wine.

My life motto

Vinum exhilarat animum (Wine cheers the spirit).

I am currently reading

Mostly instructions on how to build cabinets. We have just moved to a new home.

If I have time: Jasper Morris’ second edition of Inside Burgundy.

My most played music track

Where the Streets Have No Name by U2. Listening to this song live has given me massive goosebumps.

If I didn’t do my current job I would be

General manager of a grand hotel somewhere amazing. That was the original plan aside from being a professional soccer player.

Skill I don’t currently possess but would like to have

A carpenter can create astonishing things with wood.

My favourite kind of exercise

Skiing in winter time and mountain biking with our son in summer.

I relax while

I am on top of the Zöbinger Heiligenstein, enjoying the unique atmosphere and view.

I collect

Capsules of Champagne and Sekt bottles.

My essential newspaper/magazine

Salzburger Nachrichten.

My desert-island wine

A simple white wine topped up with sparkling water.

I have learned a lot from

My wife.

My last meal and sip will be

Roast pork with potato dumplings and a warm bacon and cabbage salad prepared by my mum along with a finely matured Morillon from my home turf of Styria.
