Poppin' start to the new year
Dubai hotel Atlantis, The Palm has partnered with Moët & Chandon to build the world’s largest drinking glass pyramid to ring in 2022. The giant, intricate structure was made up of nearly 55,000 Champagne glasses, beating the previous Guinness World Record of 50,116 glasses, set in 2017 and built by the same Luuk Broos Events company. The top layer of glasses was then filled with Moët & Chandon.
An Intricate and unique installation
Designed in partnership with a team of six from the Netherlands, each of the three pyramid bases measured 6.1m (20 ft) with a centre height to the apex of 8.2m (26 ft 11 in). It took the team five days and over 55 hours to finish, Luuk Broos told The National.
Timothy Kelly, the executive vice president and managing director of Atlantis Resorts and Residences, said in a statement provided to Travel & Leisure, "The Champagne tower is traditionally a beacon of greatness and generosity, and we'd like to toast to a new year filled with both in abundance."
The tower remained in place until January 1 and was then taken down so the coupe glasses could be recycled. The new glasses will be used in The Palm’s rooms and suites.
