El Palace Barcelona Opens New Restaurant Amar Barcelona

The oldest five-star hotel in Barcelona is opening a new seafood restaurant in partnership with starred chef Rafa Zafra.

The new seafood restaurant Amar Barcelona, a collaboration with Rafa Zafra, opens on April 26 in the luxury hotel El Palace Barcelona.

"The restaurant reflects Zafra's expertise and passion for the sea by using the best and freshest seafood. Using fine marine products such as oysters, caviar and a selection of classic Catalan and Barcelona specialties, the dishes are a tribute to Mediterranean culture," the hotel said in a statement.

The products range from raw to marinated meats, stewed, roasted and braised dishes and grilled offerings, with desserts by Francisco Zafra, master pastry chef and brother of Rafa Zafra.

The wine list has been compiled with the help of Quim Vila, the owner of top wine shop Vila Viniteca. There is also a private dining room that seats up to 10 guests.

Sea & sky

The interior design aims to be faithful to the 103-year-old Spanish hotel's heritage while creating a modern space. Ionic columns, dating back to the hotel's opening in 1919, have been restored in black and gold.

Two large crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling, above a gold bar flanked by luxurious blue velvet chairs. The colours have been chosen carefully, with gold said to represent the sky and blue the sea.

First opening as the Ritz of Barcelona, El Palace Barcelona is intertwined with Barcelona's history. Salvador Dalí, one of the most famous Surrealists, lived in the hotel and now has a suite dedicated to him. Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, who lived and performed in the hotel, also has a suite named after him that he helped design.
