Farmhouse Restaurant Updown Now Open in Kent

Ruth Leigh and Oliver Brown are welcoming guests to dine at Updown, their new outdoor restaurant set in a former farm near Deal, Kent, with accommodation available from 25 July.

Updown is the latest project created by Duck Duck Goose founder Oli Brown and his partner Ruth Leigh, daughter of the esteemed chef and journalist Rowley Leigh.

With his cooking experience gleaned at the Cantonese restaurant in London, time exploring Hong Kong’s diverse food scene and heading the Swire Hotel’s first stand-alone restaurant, Oli brings his modern approach to the food at Updown while Ruth leads on all things front of house.

Updown offers a simple, Italian-leaning hyper-seasonal menu using carefully sourced and local ingredients.

Set within seven and a half acres of Kent countryside, the restored 17th-century farmhouse will offer seven rooms, including two cottages, which will be available to book from 25 July.

Oli said, “Updown is a celebration of what the area has to offer - from some of the most beautiful fruit and veg from our neighbouring farms to wines from local vineyards. We have big plans for the Updown and hope to restore more of it in months to come - watch this space!”
