Have yourselves a vegan Christmas!

Forget the roast bird and general meat feast that fills the average Christmas dinner table – this year more people than ever are going vegan.

According to online retailer Ocado, interest in a vegan Christmas is on the rise with new data showing that 29 per cent more shoppers are planning a plant-based centrepiece for their Christmas table, eschewing the usual vegetarian options.

“Gone are the days of nut roast and veg being the only solution,” said Beth Vickerman, Vegan and Continental Deli Buyer at Ocado, the retailer also revealing that searches on Ocado for ‘Christmas vegan’ have more than tripled recently, with plant-based searches outweighing vegetarian counterparts.

Many supermarkets have increased their vegan Christmas ranges this year with Ocado offering more than 133 vegan and vegetarian-friendly products in its Christmas dinner aisle.

“We’re also seeing the serving size of vegan festive centrepieces increase, with more options that feed three to four people as opposed to single servings, as families and friends try plant-based together,” added Beth.
