Netflix has announced its African American food series has been renewed for a second season.
Time for seconds
High on the Hog, acclaimed for celebrating African American cuisine, has been renewed for a second season at Netflix. The first season of the documentary series, described as part cookbook and part travelogue, debuted in May. Hosted by food writer and sommelier Stephen Satterfield, it reveals the stories behind African American food and its relationship to Black history. “Grab a plate, it’s time for seconds. We’re so excited to share that High on the Hog will be back for season two,” Netflix tweeted.

Transforming America
High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America is based on the book of the same name by award-winning food historian Jessica Harris. In the first four-part series, Satterfield traces African American food back to Benin in west Africa as well as around the United States, from North and South Carolina to Texas. The show’s director and executive producer Roger Ross Williams said he was thrilled that a second season would allow the show to continue its “incredible journey” through Black food and culture. “It has been wonderful to see the powerful reaction audiences had to our first season and we hope to further amplify and empower the Black culinary story and experience,” Variety magazine quoted him as saying.
