Hotel Offers Submarine Package in Land-Locked Switzerland

The Vitznauerhof Hotel has unveiled a unique expedition for December, a submarine trip in Lake Lucerne.

It might sound like a joke in land-locked country but a Swiss hotel is offering a special submarine package to guests this month.

The 5.5 metre long P-63, operated by Subspirit AG, is the only submarine in Switzerland with a licence for passenger tavel. It lies within easy reach of the Hotel Vitznauerhof on Lake Lucerne, allowing guests to explore the depths of the lake.

The 6.5-tonne capsule drops at around 30 metres per minute and can reach an abandoned wreck at a depth of just under 90 metres. A storm in 1999 caused a ship called Vitzanove to sink in front of the Vitznauerhof although no passengers were on board.

The submarine has space for three passengers and a pilot, but groups of up to 12 can board in groups. The journey starts at the Vitznauerhof Hotel's jetty, where an escort boat will take guests to the P-63 to begin the dive.

The submarine has been refurbished from scratch and equipped with state-of-the-art systems. This means it can be launched in almost any weather, except when there is a storm warning.

Exclusive submersible package

The hotel's package from CHF725 per person includes a submarine trip, overnight stay, breakfast buffet and three course dinner menu plus a glass of prosecco to warm up after the dive.
