International travel is back

The results of a global travel survey reveal more than a quarter of consumers plan three or more international trips.

The appetite for international travel is at its highest point since the pandemic’s start – this is the essential message of a new global consumer survey published before the Global Summit of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) opening in Riyadh on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

According to the survey of more than 26,000 consumers from 25 countries, 63 per cent are planning a leisure trip in the next 12 months and more than a quarter (27 per cent) plan to take three or more trips over the same period.

Australians will be the world’s biggest spenders when it comes to international trips over the next 12 months, with those from Canada, Saudi Arabia, and the Philippines also expected to spend more than other travellers from around the globe.

“The results of this global survey also show the growing importance of sustainable travel amongst consumers,” said Julia Simpson, WTTC President. Almost two-thirds of consumers stated they prefer travel brands and destinations that are more sustainable, whilst nearly half said they would only spend their money with brands that are socially and environmentally responsible.
