Kracher Becomes First Austrian Producer on La Place de Bordeaux

TBA Grande Cuvée 2019 will be available through the Bordeaux negociants worldwide.

Famous for its sweet wines, the Austrian Kracher estate will now entrust the distribution of its cuvée “TBA Grande Cuvée 2019” to the negociants from la Place de Bordeaux, through Timothée Moreau from the Bureau des Grands Vins.

Kracher’s sweet wines, renowned for their complexity and singularity, will thus be available on La Place from next autumn. They will be relying on the expertise of the Bureau des Grands Vins and of nine negociants: Maison Duclot, Barrière Frères, Joanne Rare Wines, Vins et Passion, Ballande et Meneret, DIVA, Descaves, L.D Vins and CVBG.

Kracher becomes the first producer from Austria to distribute its wines through La Place de Bordeaux. “We want to make our wines available through the most prestigious channels of distribution in the world”, said Gerhard Kracher, owner of the estate located in Illmitz, in the heart of Burgenland in Austria.

“Grande Cuvée 2019 Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA)” is the estate’s flagship wine and is a blend of Welschriesling and Chardonnay. Its fruity and elegant nose reminiscent of citrus, quince, and apricot is harmonious with a round and unctuous palate with white peach, melon, and honey flavours. The finish has sweet spices and herbal notes, with a persistent savouriness which reflects the specific terroir of the Neusiedlersee region. This wine will be available from September 2022 through the Bordeaux negociants worldwide except for Austria and the USA. The Kracher collection box, which includes seven TBA from the 2019 vintage and comes in a unique wooden case each year, will be released in a limited edition starting from October 2022.

The steppe-type lake “Neusiedlersee” used to be ten times bigger than its current surface. It resulted in leaving high mineral and salt contents in the soils due to a significant drying up of the lake. This gives a typical lifting mineral edge and freshness to the wines. “The specific climate of this natural reserve has provided perfect conditions for the development of Botrytis cinerea for more than 60 years, which is a unique feature”, explains Gerhard Kracher. His family has been producing unique wines recognised by the most significant international critics.
