Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru Exhibition Starts Tour Soon
The Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru exhibition starts its global tour in south Florida in October.
The Machu Picchu and the Golden Empires of Peru travelling exhibition is preparing to kick off its global tour in south Florida in October. The bilingual exhibition, which will make its debut at the Boca Raton Museum of Art, will feature what's been descibed as the most impressive Andean gold collection ever to travel the world. Visitors can also experience the first virtual reality expedition of Machu Picchu, recorded during the unprecedented closure of the site during the Covid-19 pandemic last year. “You will be like in a virtual reality theater where you have virtual reality headsets on, you are in a chair that moves so it moves with the body and it feels like you’re moving through Machu Picchu," said Anthony Tann, president and chairman of World Heritage Exhibitions, which is organising the tour.
Seven Wonders of the World
Machu Picchu has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983 and it was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a global Internet poll in 2007. The ruins of Machu Picchu became famous as the legendary Lost City of the Inca. The exhibition will present a selection of 192 artifacts from royal tombs, many of which have never been seen outside Peru. The artifacts are on loan from Peru's Museo Larco in Lima and Museo de Sitio Manuel Chávez Ballón in Aguas Calientes.
