The pandemic has struck tourism in the Maldives, with visitors reporting a loss of quantity and sometimes quality, some resorts closing and others forced to change. The former Angsana Ihuru has been transformed into Dhawa Ihuru, a brand by the Banyan Tree Group, the all-villa resort that mainly attracts marine-life enthusiasts now has new dining and leisure facilities.

Located a 20-minute speedboat ride from Velana International Airport, Dhawa Ihuru has a ‘Twin Island dine-around concept’, which offers travellers a chance to explore dining at the sister resort Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru. There is also a new social hub called the ‘Nest’, which allows guests to connect with other holidaymakers day and night.

The water sports centre offers windsurfing, wakeboarding, water skiing and canoeing. Private sailing excursions will take guests over the house reef for diving at one of its 30 diving spots or to snorkel; guests will also be able to dine on one of the uninhabited islands. The resort has a 24-hour fitness centre and a yoga room with views of the Indian Ocean, with guests also able to take advantage of the special introduction of the All-inclusive Island Getaway offer: savings of 25 per cent on the best available rate when booking a minimum of four nights, with complimentary return speedboat transfers.
