'Mince Spies' Featured in Platinum Jubilee Cookbook

A special cookbook featuring 70 wonderful recipes, alongside profiles of British ingredients and diplomatic stories, is being published to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee.

The Platinum Jubilee Cookbook, which honours the Queen’s 70 years of service, is a collection of 70 special recipes from British embassies and high commissions across the world. The book, with a foreword by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, contains recipes – many of them served during Royal Visits – that are described as proudly British, inspired by the embassy's host country or a combination of the two.

Among them are the intriguingly named Mince Spies, from 'C', the chief of the Secret Intelligence Service, MI6. Spanish Marmalade and Whisky-laced Bread & Butter Pudding, from the Madrid and Washington D.C. embassies also feature.

The cookbook also provides great stories of food being used as an effective diplomatic tool, as well as diplomatic dinner party anecdotes from the Foreign Office through the years.

The Royal Family shared on Instagram, “as we come together as a nation, in the Realms, and across the Commonwealth to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, food will no doubt play a central part in our public and private celebrations.”

The book was written by Ameer Kotecha, a diplomat, pop-up chef and food writer. 100% of royalties from sales of the book will be donated to two charities: The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust (QCT) and The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Fund (PWCF).

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee is being celebrated throughout 2022 and there will be a four-day bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June.
