Mouton Rothschild Unveils 2019 Vintage with Olafur Eliasson Artwork
Château Mouton Rothschild has revealed its 2019 vintage label, designed by Icelandic-Danish artist Olafur Eliasson.
Every year since 1945 a leading artist has illustrated the Château Mouton Rothschild label, forming a collection that features the most famous names in contemporary art. The 2019 label features the Solar Iris of Mouton by Olafur Eliasson, celebrating the alliance of sun and wine.
“Solar Iris of Mouton is a map of all the sunsets and sunrises that take place over a year at Château Mouton Rothschild," the artist said. The work is divided into two horizontal strips, the upper part reperesenting daytime with its golden hues, the lower part the night in midnight blue.
The list of artists who have illustrated Château Mouton Rothschild labels includes some of the most celebrated figures of their day, such as Dalí, César, Miró, Chagall, Picasso and Warhol. Many of them spent time at the Château, where their original artworks are displayed.
For the first time, this year's label reveal saw Mouton Rothschild team up with Sotheby’s for an online auction of a single lot of the 2019 vintage.
The lot includes an exclusive double magnum, the label of which is signed by Olafur Eliasson and the family, six bottles, three magnums, an Imperial and the only Nebuchadnezzar released on the market to date.
