Napa’s Shafer vineyards picks up 22-acre vineyard off Silverado Trail

Shafer, the pioneering Napa Valley winery has just bought a 22-acre vineyard off Silverado Trail in the Stags Leap District within Napa Valley, as part of a $35 million purchase.

Located on the Silverado Trail, The Stags Leap District vineyard is part of a $35 million purchase of 114 acres that closed earlier this month with seller Arlie Jean Phillips, Northbay Business Journal reported.

Phillips is the founder of the Screaming Eagle Winery in Oakville and there is a variety of grapes growing on the property including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

“We’ve known for years that the fruit from this property is very special. The real winner in this is the consumer, as it gives our winemaking team the ability to choose the best possible fruit in a given vintage,” Doug Shafer, president of the winery, said in a statement quoted by Northbay Business Journal.

Known as one of the star wineries in California, Shafer has produced classic Napa Valley wines for more than 40 years. The vineyard made news in February when it was sold to Shinsegae Property, a luxury brand firm based in Seoul for 299.6 billion won or $250.3 million.
