New York's Grand Central Oyster Bar Reopens Today

New York institution, the Grand Central Oyster Bar, reopens today for the first time in nearly a year.

Oyster Bar back in business

New York's legendary Oyster Bar & Restaurant in Grand Central Terminal opens its doors today after a near-year long shutdown. The 108-year-old seafood restaurant opened for just nine days last autumn after being closed since the Covid-19 pandemic first hit. "We excited to be back in business! If you didn't know, we'll be open to the public starting next Monday, Sept. 20," the eatery said in a Facebook post.

Fewer oyster varieties

The Oyster Bar serves everything from lobster to different kids of fish but is best known for its oysters with more than 20 different varieties available each day before the pandemic. Now its menu has been trimmed to eight varieties and the restaurant has also reduced its opening hours. But it is attempting a comeback, nonetheless, after being shuttered for virtually 17 months. “We told our 120 employees in March 2020 we would be back in two weeks,” co-owner Janet Poccia told Forbes. “Who knew? But now, it’s time to open. How much longer can we wait?”
