Noble Rot to open restaurant in Mayfair

Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew will launch a third London establishment in Shepherd Market this spring.

With two restaurants already in the capital, Noble Rot has become one of London´s best-known names for a combination of excellent wine and food. Founders Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew opened a first in Bloomsbury in 2015, with their Soho branch launching in 2020.

They are now custodians of 5 Trebeck Street, formerly French brasserie Le Boudin Blanc, and will re-open it as Noble Rot Mayfair in Spring 2023. Keeling and Andrew seem to have a preference for old buildings: both their original Rotter Towers on Lamb’s Conduit Street, and their second restaurant in the old site of the Gay Hussar on Greek St are famous for their hospitality history. This also applies to 5 Trebeck St, which first opened as The Running Horse (pictured above) in the mid-1800s, a pub that earned a ripe reputation with Scotland Yard over the decades.

Shepherd Market was built on the site of the original May Fair by architect Edward Shepherd between 1735-46, the area was known as Mayfair’s red-light area until at least the 1980s. Today, it’s home to shops, pubs and restaurants, including Kitty Fisher’s, Ye Grapes and Maru, amongst others.

Keeling and Andrew promise to launch their “most ambitious wine programme yet”, with more details released soon.
