Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection Delays Debut until 2022

Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection has rescheduled the debut of its ship Evrima for the fifth time.

Delay due to COVID-19

The Ritz-Carlton’s collection’s first vessel, the Evrima, has been delayed again, this time until May 2022. The company blames "the ongoing impact of Covid-19, combined with related challenges created for construction operations in Europe” for the latest delay.

The Evrima was originally scheduled to set sail in January 2020, but Covid-19-related delays and other logistical issues pushed it out to April 2021, then November 2021 and now May 2022. Pandemic-related shipyard shutdowns have caused many cruise lines to reschedule the start dates for building new ships.

Does luxury take time?

Evrima is an upscale, yacht-like vessel with a capacity of nearly 300 passengers. The highlights are spacious cabins, a stylish spa and an à la carte restaurant designed by Sven Elverfeld of the three Michelin-starred Aqua in the Ritz-Carlton Wolfsburg, Germany.

"This is a curated yacht experience that's going to be targeted to one per cent of global travellers," Douglas Prothero, CEO of the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection told Travel and Leisure.  "We've designed and focused the product on an intimate experience."

The ship is now due to make its inaugural voyage from Lisbon on May 6, 2022.
