River Cottage launches organic ketchup range
The brand created by celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is increasing its range in cooperation with 9 Meals From Anarchy.
River Cottage has launched a new range of organic ketchup, the brand of celebrity and television chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall keen to increase its product list over the last couple of years, a range which now includes kombucha, vegetable stock, cider, beer, sparkling wine, award-winning yoghurt, kefir, as well as soaps and balms. River Cottage has recently added five kinds of ketchup to its offering, the recipes developed with organic food producers 9 Meals From Anarchy, with three flavours (squash, tomato and beetroot) available in Waitrose supermarkets; the other two varieties are mushroom and rhubarb.
The new ketchup range contains less than 10% sugar (RRP: £3.50 for a 250ml bottle) and, as with all 9 Meals From Anarchy products, the content is certified organic, vegan-friendly, palm oil-free and gluten-free. The recyclable glass bottles feature biodegradable paper labels applied using plastic-free adhesives.
Sustainable food
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is an advocate for sustainable food and has been campaigning on environmental issues over the past years; he first brought his food ethos to Channel 4 in 1999 and has fronted campaigns such as ‘Chicken Out!’ to achieve better welfare for millions of chickens in the UK. “I’ve always loved a good ketchup,” said Fearnley-Whittingstall in a statement. His new collection is aimed at bringing “some lovely rich, tangy flavours to the table daily”, with a roster of flavours inspired by the original recipes created at River Cottage HQ, which is home to a cookery school, a setting for the River Cottage television shows, and a hub of sustainable food and farming on the Devon/Dorset border.
