Cycling allows you to discover destinations in a more intimate and healthy way. It is cheap, fast, environmentally friendly and a good way to beat traffic.
Travel-tech company Sweet Inn has ranked 41 European cities to reveal the best for exploring on two wheels, whether you're a visitor or a local. The ranking is based on four measures – car free zones, cycling lanes, the average daily cost of renting a bicycle and the cycling distance between top attractions. Each city was then ranked out of 100.
Although known as one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world, Amsterdam did not make it into the top 10, coming in just outside in 11th place, according to Sweet Inn’s report. The company pointed out that whilst it is a good cycling city for locals, it’s not as well suited for visitors.
