The Eiffel Tower Welcomes Visitors Again after a Nine-Month Closure

After a nine-month shutdown – the longest closure since the Second World War – the famous Paris landmark is open to visitors again.

One of the longest shutdowns
The “Iron Lady” of Paris was closed in October 2020 with restrictions set out during the COVID-19 pandemic. As one of the most visited landmarks in the world, the site is once again open seven days a week – but visitor numbers are restricted to 13,000 per day, instead of the usual 25,000.

Tourism is coming back to Paris and we can again share the happiness, with visitors from around the world, of this monument and Paris,” said Jean-Francois Martins, head of the tower’s operating company. Last year, the French government decided to close the tower from March 13 to June 25, and then again from October 30 until now to battle the Covid-19 pandemic.

Strict rules apply
France has reached a long-awaited milestone by allowing visitors back into the Eiffel Tower. However, access is tied to vaccination status: From July 21, all visitors aged 18 and above need to show either proof of vaccination or a negative test, face masks are also required.
