The Five Best Beaches for Wildlife Lovers

We all love going to the beach – but some come with wildlife. So animal lovers rejoice, Falstaff presents the five best beaches for wildlife.

Days on the beach are precious: warm sand or pebbles beneath our feet, the beckoning waves, that essential holiday vibe. But if you also love animals, you may want to head to one of these beaches.

Pig Beach, Bahamas

Pig Beach stands out for its crystalline waters and the dazzling beauty of white shores. Its real fame, however, is down to the infinite cuteness of little pigs. Pig Beach on Big Major Cay is a beach on an uninhabited island in Exuma, Bahamas. The island is populated by a colony of wild pigs who enjoy an easy life on the island. The beach is a great place to  pet stingrays and see tiny starfish. A trip to Exuma will also give you the chance to feed the endangered Bahamian Rock Iguanas - a serene creature that can live up to 40 years. The perfect blend of colourful wildlife and beautiful nature makes this place a tropical paradise.

Monkey Beach, Thailand

The Monkey Beach at Phi Phi Island will never disappoint. Blue sea, tropical sun and cheeky monkeys are all waiting for you. The beaches are not easy to get to and cut off by limestone formations and jungle, but seeing the monkeys is worth the trip. They can be seen on the cliffs, chilling on the beach or swimming in the sea. The best time to visit Monkey Beach is from November to March, when humidity is at its lowest, temperatures average 28°C/82°F and fresh breezes cool you down.

Flamingo Beach, Aruba

This beach is another beautiful summer destination. It is on a small private island owned by the Renaissance Hotel in Aruba. Access is for hotel guests only. The focal point and best asset of this tropical beauty are the pink flamingos that roam the serene beach. They love being fed and are wonderful to watch.

Lucky Bay, Australia

Lucky Bay is quite the spot: in 2017 it received scientific proof of having the whitest sand in Australia, possibly the world. This, in combination with crystal-clear waters and breath-taking views of the Recherche Archipelago, regularly put Lucky Bay in to the top ten lists of Australia's best beaches.  But there is one unbeatable asset: you can see kangaroos in this summer paradise. Although wild, these kangaroos are used to human interaction and love to play with tourists. This surely must be one of the most magical beaches in the world.

Akumal Bay, Mexico

Akumal, or ‘Place of Turtles’, is Mexico’s answer to paradise. Famous for its coral reefs, warm water and abundant marine life, this beach is becoming increasingly popular with tourists from all over the world. If you are looking for a single place with a beautiful, well-maintained barrier reef and seagrass beds full of green turtles and stingrays, Akumal is the perfect destination. Located on the Mayan Riviera, this is the most spectacular beach in Mexico.
