Langham Estate releases its latest Corallian cuvée

The Dorset estate specialising in English Sparkling Wines has released its latest non-vintage wine.

Within the winery’s portfolio, the Corallian is the Chardonnay-dominated non-vintage classic cuvée. It is the counterpart to the Pinot Noir-dominated Culver classic cuvée. The vines gown on the chalk soils of Dorset in England’s West Country and were planted in 2009.

Individual style

From 2019 onwards, Tommy Grimshaw has made the wines and has managed to carve out an individual and exciting style for the estate, based on the spontaneous fermentation of base wines in used oak barrels and stainless steel. All the wines are also marked by full malo-lactic fermentation, very low dosage levels and at least three months post-disgorgement ageing.

The Corallian

This iteration of the Corallian classic cuvée is based on the 2019 vintage with 24% of reserve wines kept in cement tanks and is made from 81% Chardonnay, 11% Pinot Noir and 8% Pinot Meunier. It was bottled in August 2020 after seven months’ elevage and disgorged in April 2022 with a dosage of just 1.5 g/l. While this fruity cuvée strikes us as a perfect aperitif, the team at Langham aptly notes “fish and chips” as an ideal pairing for the wine, as well as “mild aromatic Thai curries, roasted poultry, baked Camembert and smoked salmon.” We would happily add fresh Dorset seafood to that.
