Lufthansa’s summer schedule faces reduction

The German airline is taking 34,000 flights out of service.

Tourism is recovering worldwide from the Covid pandemic but some companies are still struggling now, much of their problems caused by staff shortages. According to German media reports, Lufthansa will have to reduce its 2023 summer flight schedule for this reason, with around 34,000 flights set to be cancelled from their programme.

A spokesman for the German airline has confirmed adjustments to the flight schedule, with personnel bottlenecks still to be overcome, according to the spokesman. However, reference is not only made to Lufthansa’s staff problems but also to shortages in other areas such as check-in and security at airports.

Lufthansa wants, above all, to cancel flights to those destinations for which there are already several flight connections per day, allowing other airlines in the Lufthansa Group – such as Austrian Airlines – to fly the passengers. The early announcement of the flight cuts should give travellers a chance to change their travel plans for the summer.
