One of the UK’s highest peaks dismissed by reviewer as “too hilly”

Trip Advisor reviews draw criticism for ‘complaints’ about popular Cumbrian climb.

When it comes to complaints, Trip Advisor seems to attract some of the most bizarre, but the latest comments on one of the most popular walks in the Lake District take some beating.

The region attracts tourists from home and abroad and its third highest peak, Helvellyn, is seen by many as one of the best walks available. However, for some, the hill appears just “far too hilly”, with an added issue of the lack of a café when you reach the peak.

The comments appear to come from one visitor who appears to rate each hill based on Snowdonia, Wales’ highest peak, which boasts both a café near the summit and a train to take you to the top, and another who doesn’t like walking.

The first reviewer wrote: “Far too hilly. Spoiled a nice walk. There were also no facilities at the summit, not even a coffee shop,” while the second complained that it was “the worst experience of his life” as he “had to go to the bathroom halfway through and there were no facilities”.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the reviews were dismissed by many happy to give one of the best walks in England five stars; however, one no star review that currently tops the Helvellyn comments on Trip Advisor, no doubt dripping with sarcasm, labels it as “More like Hellvellyn. Come on Helvellyn, get your act together.”
