Bodegas La Horra

Falstaff Online Österreich 2023

Every Spain fan knows Bodegas Roda; the Rioja wines from this exceptional winery are held in the highest esteem worldwide. But who knows Bodegas La Horra? And yet the founders of the famous Bodega Roda, Mario Rottland and Carmen Daurella, are behind both wineries. While searching for suitable vineyards in the Ribera del Duero region, they got stuck in the sleepy village of La Horra, which would later give the bodega its name. Here, around 2010, they found exactly what they were looking for with the winemaker brothers Pedro and Pablo Balbas, which would meet their highest standards - vineyards with some extremely old vines, still cultivated in the traditional bush vine method. And so the project took its course in this sleepy corner of the region. The soil of clay, sand, gravel and limestone in the extreme climate of the Ribera del Duero provides ideal conditions for the Tempranillo, 100% of which is contained in the wines. There are also only two wines produced here, the "Corimbo" from younger vines, and the "Corimbo 1", which is made from grapes from the oldest vines. Out of respect for nature and for reasons of sustainability, the parcels of land, around 40 hectares in total, are cultivated organically. Each parcel is vinified and matured separately, "tuning" with new wood is avoided, as is anything that could run counter to the natural characteristics of the wine. The result is rated by renowned wine magazines, so you can be sure that Bodegas Horra will find its way to the top, as Bodega Roda has long since done.
