The history and development of Champagne has always been influenced by immigrants, especially from Germany. And so begins the story of the now extremely popular and appreciated Champagne house Deutz.
In 1830, a baron sent two burgher sons from Aachen named William Deutz and Peter Geldermann to the Champagne region to buy wine. Falling in love and developing a passion for the Champagne countryside and Champagne itself, the two settled in the famous village of Ay, where they founded the Deutz & Geldermann Champagne House in 1838.
They had learned the craft of winemaking and the transformation of a still wine into a fine sparkling one from none other than the House of Bollinger. Thus a new star rose in the Champagne sky, albeit one with a checkered history. After all, Deutz succeeded in acquiring many parcels in the Grand Cru sites around Ay in the following decades, securing great ageing potential from which they still benefit today.
The house cultivates 38 hectares in the very best locations. The rest of the grapes required are sourced from around 150 hectares of vineyards, tended by contract winemakers who have been with the company for many years and are therefore very familiar with its quality philosophy.
In 1988, the "Deutz & Geldermann" sparkling wine cellars, founded in Alsace at the beginning of the 20th century, moved to Breisach in Baden in 1924 and became independent; the Champagne house retained the name "Deutz". Today, Deutz offers the complete portfolio of high-quality Champagnes, from Brut and Brut Rosé non-vintage to vintage Champagnes white and rosé to the prestige cuvées "William Deutz Brut", "William Deutz Brut Rosé", a 100% Pinot Noir, produced in the rarely encountered way of mash fermentation, and the "Amour de Deutz", a 100% Chardonnay Champagne, which is only produced in outstanding years and comes to the market in a spectacular presentation.
It is precisely because of this ever-changing and artistic presentation that this Champagne is one of the most sought-after and collected among connoisseurs.
