Falstaff Wineguide Austria 2022/23

Ewald Zweytick is a winemaker from Ratsch in southern Styria who cultivates a total of eleven hectares of vineyards, which are divided between the sites Ried Stermetzberg, Sulz, Ried Höllriegl at the Alter Pfarrweingarten in Gamlitz and the Witscheiner Herrenberg. His main varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller (Muscat à Petits Grains) and Weißburgunder. Furthermore, he grows Welschriesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. Since 2021, he also has a Zweigelt Rosé in his repertoire. He is very passionate about his specific site wines "Don't Cry" (Sauvignon Blanc), "November Rain" (Morillon) and "Tosca" (Pinot Gris). Since 2008, he has also been dealing with intracellular fermentation - the result is his "Heaven's Door". Ewald Zweytick's work is as straightforward as his personality particularly when it comes to his favourite wine: "Everyone who knows me knows that my heart beats for Sauvignon Blanc in general. Even though these wines are generally drunk young, it is my objective to produce long-lived, full-bodied wines.".
