Falstaff Wineguide Austria/South Tyrol 2021/22

The Nigl Winery is located in close proximity to Senftenberg at the foot of the Burgberg. Today, the winery has 30 hectares of vineyards, which are distributed among the premium sites of the Kremstal. The most important sites are called Pellingen, planted with Riesling and Grüner Veltliner, and Hochäcker, planted with Riesling. The vineyards are located near Senftenberg, near Rehberg and in Kremser Rieden.

The best wines of Nigl's range bear the name "Privat". The grapes for the two "Privat" fillings come from old vineyards in the Senftenberg Pellingen. On barren primary rock soils, the 40-year-old vines yield only a very low yield, but with higher quality: Year on year, two great, storable wines of captivating concentration and minerality are produced here. Stuart Pigott says about Martin Nigl's wines: "From the smallest wine to these high peaks, Nigl's white wines are crystal clear and extremely precise in aroma and taste. Here, almost indecent appeal and great elegance combine; simply brilliant!" One can only agree with this statement without contradiction.

By the way, the Nigl family also runs a restaurant and a small hotel in Senftenberg, which guarantees a pleasant stay in Kremstal.
