Falstaff Wineguide Austria/South Tyrol 2021/22

Humility, gratitude and a sense of tradition, this is the credo of a winemaker and also those of Robert Direder: humility towards the inexhaustible wealth of nature, which must be preserved, gratitude for the gifts that the tireless earth donates year after year, and a sense of tradition in maintaining the heritage and the handcraft. The reward for this consistency are long-lived wines full of character.

Robert Direder's special concern is to emphasise the vintage and moreover to offer his wines ageing potential. This is why he decided to give his wines more time to mature. This year, for this reason alone, some of his wines were tasted and evaluated again.

In the vineyard, the Direders rely on extensive cultivation of the soil and gentle care of the vines. They grow naturally, without any performance pressure and the vineyard is left with a certain sense of "self-responsibility". They only intervene when it is absolutely necessary. The natural interaction of the loess soil and the vine cannot be improved as a winemaker, but care can be taken as not to disturb it.

In the cellar, the young cellar master accompanies his wines with caution and restraint and avoids excessive intervention. For everything else, he relies on his intuition. This restraint is rewarded with particularly fruity, expressive, subtle and rounded wines.

The Direder family enjoys the authenticity of their wines and flourish when something outstanding is achieved!
