Falstaff Wineguide Austria/South Tyrol 2021/22

The Ecker - Eckhof winery, located in the heart of Lower Austria, in Mitterstockstall, municipality of Kirchberg am Wagram, is a third-generation family business, with the Ecker family having been in the wine business for over 400 years. The farm is located in the beautiful vine-growing region of Wagram, on that deep loess layer that stretches north of the Danube about 20 kilometers - between Krems and Stockerau - to the east. The climatic profile of this region offers the best conditions for the Grüner and Roter Veltliner varieties. Currently, the winery cultivates 24 hectares of its own vineyards.

Bernhard Ecker produces 80 percent white wine from local varieties. Grüner Veltliner, which is offered in five different variations, as well as Red Veltliner are the most important varieties of the extensive wine assortment. The winery, which has won several national and international awards, has been an integral part of the domestic wine scene for years. Ecker wines are also becoming increasingly popular abroad. Ecker stands for consistent top quality without compromise. The wines, which are appreciated by wine connoisseurs year after year, are characterised above all by clarity, finesse and longevity.

A cosy wine bar spoils the guests with many traditional dishes of the region and the matching glass of wine or Sekt. Furthermore, a modern tasting room is available, where the entire range of wines can be tasted at leisure after a short appointment by telephone.
