With tremendous dedication and passion, Markus Altenburger has turned the winery into an internationally renowned and one of the most exciting wineries on the Leithaberg within just a few years. A clear focus on low-intervention vinification in combination with grapes from the typical slate and Leithakalk soils in Jois makes his style unmistakable.

The winery's prime red wines are made from Blaufränkisch: the purist site wines from old vines in the Jungenberg and Gritschenberg vineyards are only produced in the best vintages and in small quantities. The perfect introduction is provided by the enjoyable Blaufränkisch vom Kalk, and the vineyard cuvée "Markus Altenburger rot" which indicates the style of the forthcoming years. When it comes to white wine, the Altenburgers are primarily concerned with Chardonnay, Grüner Veltliner and Neuburger. An elegant variant from limestone soils - significantly named "Chardonnay vom Kalk", 'Kalk' depicting the German word for limestone soils- and a complex site version from the slate-dominated Jungenberg vineyard are vinified. The love of grape varieties that have become rare is expressed, for example, in the "Neuburger betont" - a play on words, ('betont' meaning to emphasise and 'Beton' meaning concrete) since the Neuburger grape variety is matured in an emphatically restrained manner and in egg-shaped concrete tanks. For some years now, a single-vineyard Grüner Veltliner from the limestone-rich Ladisberg vineyard and a natural cuvée of local grape varieties - "Markus Altenburger weiß" - have also been an overall success.
