Falstaff Wineguide Austria/South Tyrol 2021/22

The Münzenrieder winery is located in Apetlon, in the immediate vicinity of numerous salt lakes that are extremely typical for this area. Today, this winery is anything but unknown - especially when it comes to its Prädikat wines, the balance of which is one of the winemaker's most important concerns. The typical terroir character is reflected in the wines of the dedicated vine-growing family.

Johannes Münzenrieder, who took over the winery in 2005, was able to set new momentum with his red wine cuvee "Mavie" as well as with the reconstruction of the cellar and the new sales room. Due to their fruitiness and concentration, the grape varieties Sämling, Welschriesling and Grüner Veltliner are best suited to produce Beerenauslesen, Trockenbeerenauslesen and Eisweine typical of the region, which above all express a harmonious combination of sweetness and acidity with the fruit components of the wine. In the meantime, the winery is just as convincing with Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and the blends of Zweigelt, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. However, the Münzenrieder family is also increasingly devoting itself to dry white wines, which are matured both in steel tanks and in small wooden barrels. International awards and the frequent inclusion in the "Salon Österreich Wein" testify to the quality as well as the export successes overseas.
