Falstaff Wineguide Austria/South Tyrol 2021/22

The Golser "Pannobile" winemaker Paul Achs fully joined his parents' business with the 1991 harvest: just four years later, he was named "Falstaff Winemaker of the Year". Since then, the winery, which was once dedicated to white wine and which has always combined tradition with modern cellar technology, has become a producer of excellent red wines. Meanwhile, the red wine share has already reached 90 percent.

Paul Achs does not produce show wines, he focuses on elegance and rich finesse. Most of the wines are aged in barriques. This is true for Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc as well as for the red wine specialties - from Pinot Noir to Blaufränkisch "Ungerberg" to the cuvee "Pannobile".

The prerequisite for the highest quality is an extreme harvest restriction to a maximum of 3000 kilograms of grapes per hectare - efforts that have long since paid off, because today Paul Achs' wines are among the best in the Austrian red wine scene, as evidenced by the annual Falstaff red wine awards: Paul Achs' wines are always to be found in the absolute top field.
