Falstaff Wineguide Austria/South Tyrol 2021/22

Right next to the Lange Lacke in Apetlon, the heart of the Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park, you will find the winery of the brothers Peter and Christoph Münzenrieder. Standing in front of it, there is no denying an architectural interpretation of the catchy label. The tasting rooms offer a glimpse into the impressive barrique cellar, where the single-vineyard wines can grown-up at optimal temperatures.

The brothers are right on target with their site philosophy and terroir feeling. Of the single vineyard sites, four wines deserve special mention: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Zweigelt from Neubruch, one of the best sites in Apetlon for varieties of the Burgundy family. The main variety is Zweigelt. It feels particularly at home in the Neusiedler See region and is rewarded with outstanding quality. After single-varietal and site-separate harvesting and vinification, the winery's top cuvées - "Diabolus", the red devil, and "Auratum TBA", the liquid gold - are blended and bottled only once they have sufficiently matured in French barriques. Some of the best sweet wine producers in the world come from the Seewinkel. With their countless international gold medals and other high awards for their white and red predicate wines, the two brothers are among them. PMC wines can be found on numerous wine lists of top gastronomy around the globe.
