The Payr Winery is located in Höflein in the Carnuntum winegrowing region southeast of Vienna between the Danube and Lake Neusiedl. It is run by the fifth generation of the family, Robert Payr, and is dedicated to the artisanal production of authentic and regionally typical wines. Today, twelve hectares of vineyards are cultivated around Höflein and Prellenkirchen. Since 2018, the winery has been a member of the "Traditionsweingüter Österreich". There is evidence that vine growing in the family goes back to the 18th century. An old wine cellar dating back to 1772, which is still owned by the family today, bears witness to this.

Robert Payr combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary commitment and develops wines whose taste is based on the experience and passion of now five powerful winemaking personalities. Today, he is carefully developing the heritage of his ancestors and is always breaking new ground. In addition to the reduction of yields in the vineyards and the conversion to organic viticulture, he focuses above all on the sites. He has bought new vineyards, completely reoriented existing ones and given some soils a rest. In an intensive examination of the vine, the soil and the climate, the experienced winemaker relies on the finesse of nature and carefully works out the unique taste structure of the individualistic sites, wine for wine.

Restful and restless - in a positive sense - is how Robert Payr could be described. The winery has been officially certified as "Sustainable Austria" since 2015 and has been in conversion to organic since January 2017. The grapes from their own vineyards are harvested by hand, selected and processed from the fruit to the seeds to the stalk. Robert Payr's wines are powerful characters that tell their own story. They are structured and savoury and are internationally appreciated due to their density and long storage ageing potential.
