Falstaff Wineguide Austria/South Tyrol 2021/22

In the more than 200 years of its existence, the Schützenhof winery has played a decisive role in the development of Southern Burgenland into one of Austria's leading and most interesting wine regions. As early as the 1950s, they were one of the first wineries in the area to bottle wine. Two generations later, Markus and Kristina Faulhammer are still committed to the pioneering work of their ancestors.

In order to sustainably protect the value of the soils and vineyards for their descendants and to get the unadulterated character of their homeland into the wine, the young winemakers first relied on organic viticulture and, in a further step, on biodynamics. Currently they are in the process of converting to Demeter. The consequent artisan way is supposed to support the individual taste of the soils of Southern Burgenland with their distinctive minerality and to serve as a vehicle for a tangibly higher quality of all wines.

The range is made up of all-natural, unadulterated, deep white and red wines, all with a firm structure and a comprehensible focus on tradition and purism, never lacking in drinkability. A few more ideas like the bone-dry and tart-smelling "Wermutstropfen" or the refreshingly bubbly Pétillant Naturel "Biotop" complete the assortment - a large number of freshly planted apple trees are to serve as basis for cider in the future. Besides the architecturally interesting winery and the picturesque vineyards, there are a few lovingly furnished guest rooms, which allow wine lovers to explore the wines of the Schützenhof in more detail.
