Falstaff Wineguide Austria 2022/23

Walter Skoff is the fourth generation to run the family winery SKOFF ORIGINAL, which farms a cultivated area of about 60 hectares. The special climate and fertile soils of southern Styria create perfect conditions for top wines that regularly cause a sensation in international connoisseur circles. The variety of different vineyards with a wide range of terroirs, which the winery has at its disposal, is unique in Styria. This is how wines with personality and of international standing are created at Gamlitzer Eckberg.

The masterpieces of the house have won awards many times in the past 30 years. In 2017, the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon Blanc, one of the most important white wine competitions in the world, was a preliminary highlight of the medal round. Among 867 international wines submitted, the Sauvignon Blanc Kranachberg (2015 vintage) was awarded the "Denis Dubourdieu Trophy". This is awarded to the wine with the purest and most refined Sauvignon character and is considered the world champion of the scene.

The grand seigneur of wine knows his craft; it is his passion for viticulture that drives him day after day - whether it is when a new site is to be planted with meticulous care and love or when it is a matter of aligning the work in the vineyard exactly with the pulse of nature in the cycle of the year. Just like his feeling for the soil and the climate, as well as his enormous expertise, he is also supported by his team: Longstanding employees who have wine in their blood at least as much as the boss himself. Not only are traditional and proven methods followed, but also innovative approaches - from ageing wines in granite stone barrels to organic vinification - have their place.
