The name "Weinhaus" spells out the business model, Martin Hochdörffer does not cultivate his own vineyards, but buys grapes from friends and relatives to make his wine. In the Pfalz, winegrowers are plentiful. Hochdörffer likes to concentrate on what he does best, making wine. And the concept works, as the current wines prove, from the juicy dry Riesling Spätlese with its wonderful clashing sweetness and acidity to the excellently extracted Pinot Noir.

It was not until 2016 that Yvonne and Martin Hochdörffer took over Weingut Franz Hahn. Since Martin Hochdörffer wants to focus entirely on winemaking, all the grapes are bought in. We can see Hochdörffer’s spirit of experimentation also in the range of wines he presented this year. He skilfully combines maturation in wood and stainless steel. His Veltliner „Premiium“ shows the variety’s DNA and yet has Pfalz character. His combination of Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Blanc is unusual. This is a fairly priced range of wine which should also prove an interesting hunting ground for a sommelier.
