Falstaff Wineguide Austria/South Tyrol 2021/22

Sankt Anna am Aigen in hilly southeastern Styria is the home of the Scharl winery and one of the region's most passionate winemakers. Josef Scharl grew up with his roughly 22 hectares of vineyards and has - virtually since he can remember - been closely connected to this "piece of luck" in his barrels and bottles. And just as wine draws its unique presence and character from the soil, Josef Scharl must also have inhaled his passion and strength from his homeland. He is additionally motivated by the many awards he has received, which pour further energy into the wines and thus allow the winery to embark on new tasting experiences.

Close to nature and proud, with deep respect for the land and its people, the most beautiful wines are created here year after year. The combination of courage for creative ideas and a great love of work makes the products from the Scharl estate lasting and impressive experiences. This applies to the cellar and kitchen just as much as to the hospitality in our own rentable winegrower's cottage. There are already some excellent wines in the regional winegrowers' association "Eruption" - to which Josef Scharl junior also belongs, of course - and this is where the circle of fertilization is realised. The Scharl wine farm presents itself to its visitors as coherent and intense as its own wines: a piece of happiness in the Styrian volcano country.
