British actor and producer Idris Elba is set to open a wine bar and shop in central London in October. The venue will open in Coal Drops Yard near King’s Cross and will also be called Porte Noire, like Elba’s wine brand. Porte Noir’s range for now includes a Provençal rosé made in collaboration with Château Sainte Marguerite as well as a non-vintage and vintage Champagne made in collaboration with Champagne Sanger in Avize.

The venue, which also has outdoor space, will seat up to 70 people in its dining room and bar. Porte Noir’s extensive wine selection will be in the hands of David Farber who runs Connaught Wine Cellars. Elba is best known for roles in The Wire, Luther, and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. His bar is set to open on 18 October 2021. Bookings can be made online.

Porte Noir’s 2010 vintage Blanc de Blancs is worth the tip – Falstaff tasted it earlier this year: Porte Noire Champagne Blanc de Blancs brut 2010 Grand Cru Sélectionné par Idris Elba
