Austrian-born chef Wolfgang Puck is collaborating with Bronx-based culinary collective Ghetto Gastro for Hollywood's ritziest night of the year. Wolfgang Puck catering will again create the menu for the Governors Ball, the official celebration following the 94th Oscars ceremony on March 27.

“Every year we look to find ways to keep things new, fresh and fun,” said Wolfgang Puck.  “The Oscars Governors Ball is an event where food, fashion, culture, cinema and music collide. To celebrate this convergence, we couldn’t think of a better partner than Ghetto Gastro.”

Culinary empowerment

The Bronx-based culinary collective Ghetto Gastro's work is described as blending "influences from the African diaspora, global South ingredients and hip-hop to create offerings that address race, identity and economic empowerment". The Academy Awards has came under fire in recent years for a lack of diversity and equality for minorities, sparking the #OscarsSoWhite movement in 2015.

“At Ghetto Gastro, we have a saying, ‘WE ONLY LAYER FLAVOURS’ (W.O.L.F.) – so we feel it’s only right that we collaborate with the great Wolfgang Puck to create an Oscars Governors Ball unlike any before. Wolf Gang activity,” said Jon Gray, co-founder of Ghetto Gastro.

What's on the menu?

The menu will feature new dishes from Wolfgang Puck Catering alongside such old favorites such as smoked salmon Oscars and spicy tuna cones. Jon Gray, Pierre Serrao and Lester Walker from Ghetto Gastro will have their own action station in addition to several pass around menu items throughout the night.

“This is a first-of-its-kind collaboration that breaks boundaries and brings a new flavour to the Oscars Governors Ball,” said show producer Will Packer, referring to the collaboration as a "dope alliance".

Brad Pitt's Champagne

The drinks will be a little more conventional at the red carpet event. Champagne Fleur de Miraval, created by Brad Pitt, Champagne house Pierre Péters and the Perrin family, will be served at the Dolby Theatre during the Oscars as well as during the Governors Ball.

"Unique and rare, Fleur de Miravel will be celebrated just as everyone is on the edge of their seats awaiting the announcement of the winners," the Champagne brand said in a statement. The Rosé Champagne will be poured alongside two limited-edition Francis Ford Coppola wines while mixologist Charles Joly will again curate a selection of Tequila Don Julio specialty cocktails.
