Generation X Travellers to Lead Tourism Recovery
After the ‘lost’ year of 2020, the recovery of the travel industry will be led by 35-54-year-olds, a report published by US travel specialist Omnitrak Compass says.
Millennials, boomers and generation Xers
While millennials, or 18-34-year-olds, are held back by financial constraints, baby boomers, or those over 55, are more concerned about travel safety, despite greater financial stability. Thus, generation X is expected to lead the recovery in leisure travel.
Both generation X and baby boomers are more likely to travel domestically, with boomers likely leading the recovery in drive travel. Millennials are more interested in travelling abroad.
Business travel lags behind
The report also found that business travel will take much longer to recover: “According to the U.S. Travel Association, domestic leisure person trips nationwide are not forecast to return to pre-COVID levels until 2022, and domestic business trips are not projected to approach such levels until 2024.”
