When Roberto Polito and Carlo Ponti, film producer and husband of Sophia Loren, bought a plot of land on the Tuscan coast together in the 1970s simply because they liked it so much, they had no idea that they would lay the foundations for a flourishing hotel business. In 1974, the Baglioni Resort Cala del Porto opened as the brand's first hotel. Nine more - including in London, France and the Maldives - followed. The latest new addition is back to its roots. It is nestled in the unspoiled natural landscape of the Tavolara marine reserve on the north-east coast of Sardinia. It is already a member of the Leading Hotels of the World.
